| Name: | Trilby (AU) |
|---|
Character: Trilby, AKA "Terence Railby"
Series/Fandom: Chzo Mythos
Original or Alternate: Alternate Verse
Age: Exact age unknown, but around early 30's
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Sexuality: Presumably heterosexual
Appearance: Trilby is not someone who's considered handsome in the traditional
sense, but there is a sort of rough, roguish look about him. Standing
at 6'4", his athletically fit body has been honed by many years
practicing his shady profession. Short, slightly unkempt black hair
frames a haggard face, its gauntness only accenting its sharp lines.
His eyes are a dark green, the observant light within dimmed by a
faint shadow of fear that never quite goes away. Either though some
strange whim or a habit left over from his so-called glory days,
Trilby dresses in absurdly old-fashioned clothes more suited for old
men than someone his age. His usual wardrobe consists of a white
long-sleeved shirt, a black vest with grey buttons, a navy tie, a grey
blazer, and grey pants with black shoes. He is seldom seen without a
grey hat.
The Prince is abnormally tall and thin, resembling a stick person from
some demented child's drawing. His face is completely devoid of any
features, a mask of porcelain hue. His body, a grotesque mockery of
the human form, is draped with a black trenchcoat in a style that's a
strange cross between Victorian (completely with a high ruffled
collar) and neo-Gothic. Perpetually fresh blood splatters on its front
complete the macabre portrait. His fingers are sheathed in black
gloves and deceptively frail-looking, as many have perished at the
Prince's hands.
Personality: Before the DeFoe Manor incident, Trilby was generally a very
self-absorbed, secretive person who strove to present the image of a
"gentleman thief": an intelligent and cultured cat burglar with a
snarky, cynical sense of humor. He was the type of person who didn't
give a damn for anyone besides himself unless there was something in
it for him. He was also quite insensitive, even having the gall to
make a sarcastic joke upon discovering a corpse. But after the five
nightmarish days in DeFoe Manor, Trilby was changed almost completely.
Though he still appears glib and confident, it is only because his new
profession requires him to. He has become more disposed towards people
and will not hesitate to warn/save them if they are in danger.
Nonetheless, he still retains his sense of independence; he'll solve
his problems by himself ideally without dragging anyone else into
them, although he's not above asking for help if he truly needs it.
He's also more polite now, but his fastidiousness remains.
The Prince is at best an extension of the King, Chzo. The passage of
time has basically eroded his personality away, leaving little of the
man he once was. However, one strong trait still remains: pride.
Otherwise, the Prince is the loyal and faithful servant of Chzo and
will unquestionably carry out its wishes with an intense zeal. He
believes in a rather twisted sense of justice, much like the ancient
laws of retribution. His brand of vengeance, though, is oftentimes
indiscriminate – innocents are struck down with the guilty. Strangely,
despite his very obvious bloodlust, he believes what he does is
completely justified and righteous. He also has a disturbing and
rather dark sense of humor.
Abilities/Strengths: Though Trilby has given up the life of a cat burglar, his most
noticeable talents still lie within the sphere of stealth. He can open
any lock and crack any safe given the right tools and a relatively
short period of time. His agility, both physical and mental, has
gotten him out of many difficult situations. He is a talented liar and
is quite good at manipulation, as well as disguising his true self and
purposes. He is a skilled observer of people and places, his keen gaze
often picking up things others might now. He uses such knowledge for
his logical conclusions. He is very diligent in what he does and
seldom leaves things unfinished. Additionally, Trilby seems to be
sensitive to psychic/supernatural forces.
While Trilby's skills are mainly of the mind, the Prince's are far
more visible. Despite his appearance, he possesses incredible strength
which he uses for his sadistic killings. Since he does not completely
exist in the physical world, he is capable of influence the
environment and objects around him – as well as creating
manifestations – through a sort of magic. This includes the ability to
possess others. Being near sources of magic, whether they be objects
or people, increases his own powers and psychic strength. When the
Prince does seem corporeal, he cannot be destroyed physically through
direct means.
Weapons: Trilby doesn't actually have a specific weapon, but he can probably
use one if he really has to, though without any true degree of skill.
The Prince wields a metal staff. A bit taller than he is, four
razor-sharp blades are affixed to the top. Due to the Prince's
strength, even the staff part of the weapon is deadly, capable of
rending through flesh and bone alike.
Weaknesses: Trilby isn't as skilled in unarmed combat as he thinks he is. He's
often subject to terrifying hallucinations ("reality shifts") when he
becomes too agitated, an effect of his mental shields falling under
the Prince's influence. For this reason, he avoids caffeine and needs
to take sedatives to calm down. This has left him strongly dependent
on the drugs, which in turn creates less intense hallucinations as a
side effect. Trilby is also highly sensitive to the events of his
past, particularly those surrounding DeFoe Manor and/or Clanbronwyn
Hotel; his calm demeanor tends to break whenever they are mentioned.
Faced with a potentially upsetting situation, he typically reverts
back to his old self, becoming caustic to the point of rudeness as a
sort of defense.
Although he would never go against the King's orders, the Prince still
has his ways in arrogance, mainly in presuming he can never be
replaced. This tends to make him overconfident in his actions. Though
he cannot feel pain physically, harming Trilby (in a sense, harming
the splinter of wood which contains his soul within Trilby) causes him
intense agony. Being a creature of magic, the Prince does not function
well around places devoid of magical power.
